Last year, Pantone had selected Classic Blue for their Colour of the Year. This year, they have gone for two.
I’m not normally into yellow in my stash, but these two colours do look perfect together.
… two independent colours that highlight how different elements come together to support one another, best express the mood for Pantone Color of the Year 2021.Pantone Colour of the Year 2021; https://www.pantone.com/uk/en/color-of-the-year-2021
After the past year of pandemic, and the recent horrific pictures from Washington, I completely get it. Whether two colours are going to make a difference… I doubt it.
Pantone claim that the Ultimate Gray is “practical and rock solid, but also warming and optimistic” and with the Illuminating, it suggests “strength and positivity” in their union.
A message of happiness supported by fortitude, the combination of PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating is aspirational and gives us hope. We need to feel that everything is going to get brighter – this is essential to the human spirit.Pantone Colour of the Year 2021; https://www.pantone.com/uk/en/color-of-the-year-2021
That is a sentiment that we all share, I am sure, for 2021.
I love the colour pair Pantone have selected for their Colour of the Year. Fresh, bright and complementary.
So much so, I have purchased some yarn so I can make something with these colours.
I stopped by MyFineWeavingYarn and added these two lovelies to my basket.
The Bright Yellow is fairly close, the Light Grey less so, but close enough. These are mercerised cotton, so have a lovely soft sheen to them, and in an 8/4 count. Each cone is 200g, approximately 675 metres. Enough for a couple of projects.
Now, I just need to plan what to make. Options so far:
- Houndstooth or Log Cabin
- A scarf, shawl
- A table runner or placemats
- Cushion covers
- … hmm, what else?
Hoping to get something on the loom Sunday.
But equally, it would be great in crochet form. Decisions, decisions.
There is some irony. One of the rooms in the house has a mustard yellow wall (not the same shade as Illuminating) and the blind has yellow and grey tree motifs. Both of which will be gone soon when I redecorate. 😕

really love that combination, the steely grey looks like it has some blue in it, really gorgeous! I vote for a cushion cover, but whatever you do I’m sure will be stunning!

Thanks. Still trying to decide. If a cushion I need to get the right decorative pattern.
